Arriving by Air
Varanasi Airport is at Babatpur, 22 kms from Varanasi Railway Station and 26 kms from the city centre at godoulia. Varanasi is connected by air to Lucknow, Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Khajuraho and Kathmandu. it is advisable to hire a tixi at the airport for transfer to the city centre, as the bus service is often erratic.

Arriving by Train
Varanasi Railway Station is in the Cantonment area. Sixteen kms from varanasi is another important railway station mughal sarai junction. Both these stations are well-connected by the north eastern railway to all the major cities. both of them have fully computerized reservation centers. the booking office is open all days of the week from 8 am to 8 pm. there is left-luggage facility at both varanasi and mughal sarai railway stations. both are open 24 hours.

Arriving by Road
Varanasi is situated at the junction of National Highways NH2, NH7 and NH29, and is well connected by National Highways to Kolkata and Patna and by State Highways to all major towns of Uttar Pradesh. Bus There are two bus stands in Varanasi, one on Sher Shah Suri Marg, in the Cantonment area and the other one is at Godoulia. UP Roadways operates bus services from both the bus stands to Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Lucknow.

Private deluxe buses are also available, but it is advisable to personally check timings and fares at least a day in advance of travel.

Local Transport

Metered black-and-yellow taxis are not available in Varanasi. Most hotels will be able to arrange chauffeured cars for hire on an hourly or kilometre charge basis. Local city buses cover most parts of Varanasi but are often very crowded and uncomfortable. Three-wheeled auto-rickshaws are available in most places. Cycle-rickshaws and horse- drawn carriages (fongas) are commonly used. It is advisable to fix rates before travel. Try to find out the going rate for the journey from local people and negotiate a fair price before starting.
