Also known as Sant Ravidas Nagar, this small town located at a distance of 45 kms from Varanasi is a major carpet manufacturing centre which earns foreign exchange on 80 per cent of its produce. History has it that a Persian weaver travelling in a caravan was attacked by dacoits, but survived the massacre. He settled in Bhadohi and imparted his knowledge of weaving to the local residents, which help set up a thriving industry. Jaunpur Jaunpur is a town of grate interest to architects for its uniquely built Mosques , notably Atala Masjid and Jama Masjid. Jaunpur , 65 KM, Nort-West of Varanasi , and founded by Feroz Shah in 1360 to guard the eastern flank of the Delhi Sultanate . the river Gomti which bisects Jaunpur , is spanned by the massive 16th century Akabari-Bridge . Designed by an Afghan architect , the stone structures fifteen arches have with stood floods and earthquakes ; at the southern end , a large sculpture of a lion tussling with an Elephant doubles as a provincial milestone.Jaunpur is also famous for perfume and incence industries.
